The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists an Edwardian Magic show from acclaimed actor Neil Gore

Townsend Theatre Productions is delighted to announce the return of its critically acclaimed stage adaptation of Robert Tressell’s 1914 novel, The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists.

The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists is a unique document. A novel of humour and sharply observed characterisation, it is also a passionate defence of socialist ideas and one of the first truly imaginative portrayals of life written from a working-class perspective.

Using Magic Lantern, projected animation, political conjuring tricks, live music and song, and with the Great Money Trick as its centrepiece, join acclaimed actor Neil Gore and follow the painters and decorators who struggle to maintain themselves and their families through hard work, poverty, and the constant fear of unemployment, whilst renovating a large town-house for the local mayor, Mayor Sweater.  |
